Israel has announced a third national lockdown, amid a renewed surge in infections.

It comes weeks after it began easing its second, month-long lockdown following a drop in the number of new cases.

The latest lockdown will begin on Sunday evening and will last for at least two weeks.

Under the new rules, non-family members will be barred from entering other households, movement restricted to 1km (0.7 miles) from one's home, and shops and leisure facilities shut.

The clampdown comes days after Israel began vaccinating the general population against the novel coronavirus. After initial success in containing the disease, the country has struggled to curb the pandemic since a second wave hit in July.
