Pakistan To Increase Coronavirus Testing Capacity To 25,000 Per Day

Pakistan has announced the decision to increase coronavirus (COVID-19)  testing capacity to 25,000 people per day before April ending.

Planning Minister Asad Umar said the government would also increase its supply of personal protective equipment to doctors from April 9, with equipment to be provided directly to hospitals rather than through provincial governments.

Addressing a key concern in a country where analysts fear numbers of coronavirus infections are being under-reported due to a lack of testing capacity.

As of Wednesday morning, Pakistan had 3,546 active cases of coronavirus being treated countrywide, with at least 57 fatalities and 458 patients recovered since the outbreak began in late February, according to government data.

Pakistan's government said it plans on quadrupling its daily COVID-19 testing capacity to at least 25,000 tests a day by the end of April.
