No Matter What

No Matter What

On Wednesday evening , Kerrie and Sam went for a meal to catch up on each other's news. Sam was really enjoying uni life, doing whatever she wanted -sleeping with loads of guys, getting drunk , smoking and having a good time. Kerrie was listening to all of her stories thinking what a change had taken place. The girls used to pay for their school and pray for people who were making the kind of choices Sam was making.

Confused by what she heard , Kerrie asked Sam how her walk with God was going. Sam's reply was simple: “ Look I've done so much stuff in my life that's wrong , how can I worship God or even talk  to him? I've sinned so many times that I can't get my life back to what it was before.”

Kerrie explained to Sam that we don't need to come to God with our lives totally sorted. We need to go to him and be in his presence and asked him about our lives, ask him to forgive us. Running away from God and looking to things that don't give us true joy and even harm us is not the answer.

As time went on , Sam got back into a real relationship with God and worked through the habits of her daily life. She discovered that God doesn't want perfect people , he wants people with broken hearts, She discovered that God doesn't want perfect people, he wants people with broken hearts, confused lives and with imperfections to come to him and to worship him through the hard times as well as the good.

Read Hebrews 12:18-25. It talks of the complete forgiveness Jesus has to offer and that we don't have to come to him perfect, but with a heart lifts him up to no matter what.

Bible Text
Hebrews 12:18-25

18NIV:You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm;
19NIV:to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them,
20NIV:because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.”
21NIV:The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”
22NIV:But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly,
23NIV:to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
24NIV:to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
25NIV:See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?
26NIV:At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”
27NIV:The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28NIV:Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,

Questions to Consider
  • Have you felt that it's too hard or that you are unworthy to worship God?
  • Worship is so much more than just singing. What ways other than singing can we worship God?

Motion Points
  • Whether you are feeling that you've sin beyond repair? It is not uncommon. Remember that God loves you and forgives everything that you've done if just ask him. You have been saved from your sins by Jesus death on the cross.
  • Whether you know anyone who is trying to run away from God. Rather than telling them what they're doing wrong , remind them of his never-ending love and forgiveness.

Hymn for Today
Almost Persuaded [ Philip P. Bliss]

"Almost persuaded" now to believe;
"Almost persuaded" Christ to receive;
Seems now some soul to say,
"Go, Spirit, go Thy way,
Some more convenient day
On Thee I'll call."

"Almost persuaded," come, come today;
"Almost persuaded," turn not away;
Jesus invites you here,
Angels are ling'ring near,
Prayers rise from hearts so dear;
O wand'rer, come!

Oh, be persuaded! Christ never fails--
Oh, be persuaded! His blood avails--
Can save from every sin,
Cleanse you without, within--
Will you not let Him in?
Open the door!

"Almost persuaded," harvest is past!
"Almost persuaded," doom comes at last;
"Almost" cannot avail;
"Almost" is but to fail!
Sad, sad that bitter wail--
"Almost--but lost!"

Be now persuaded, oh, sinner, hear!
Be now persuaded, Jesus is near;
His voice is pleading still,
Turn now with heart and will,
Peace will your spirit fill--
Oh, turn today!
