Read: 2 Samuel 9:3-7

MEMORISE: "Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price..(Isaiah 55:1)

Nearly everyone desires to visit the 'Presidential Villa', in Nigeria, even for a gala night. Why? Such meals use to be special, and because they come from a special person - the president, in a special place, with decorated tables and assorted delicacies. What a privilege!  David was no doubt a great king in his days. Yet, he showed love and kindness to the crippled Mephibosheth. What a great opportunity for the downtrodden! David was not like the rich man in Jesus' parable *(Luke 16:19-24; Psalms 69:22)*, ungodly, selfish and foolish.

God, the ultimate King, provided a table in the wilderness, even though for the unworthy people. He drove out the original inhabitants of Canaan for His own special people. But sadly, they paid Him in a negative waydefilement *(Numbers 25:1-9)*. Is any of us worthy of His invitation? Just like the one in our text today *(2 Samuel 9:3-7)*, all of us are grossly inadequate and unworthy. Yet, we are either not ready to eat, or we defile His table and abuse the unmerited opportunity He offers us. Why was Adam driven out of the garden? Hope you are not abusing the altar of God in your assembly?

Christians have a better hope of eating at the Ultimate King's table in His kingdom, but many jettison His call with frivolous excuses *(Luke 14:16ff)*. Do we care to ask why great men were ignored, even in Jesus' days? The high priests, the scribes love to seat in Moses' seat at the expense of the table of the Lord? If the kings of this world failed to invite us, and the King of kings does, then we are doomed, if we ignore His call to the eternal dinner. Jesus has gone to prepare the table where we will eat and hunger no more *(John 14:1-6)*. Will you keep hardening your heart against His call? Obedience pays.

*1.* Lord, forgive me in any way I have turned down Your invitation.
*2.* Father Lord, help me to be conscious of the marriage supper of the Lamb, and help me to live my life in that direction.
*3.* Lord, help our political and religious leaders not to deny the less privileged of their God-given rights sent through them.
