ABUJA – ACADEMIC Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will today take a final decision on whether it will proceed on strike over unresolved issues with the Federal Government or not. Unconfirmed report had it that the union met yesterday at an undisclosed venue to take decision on the looming strike. But when Vanguard sought confirmation of the meeting from the National President of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi last night, he simply invited our Correspondent to attend a press briefing at Labour House today. But information had it that Chairmen of state chapters of the union met in Abuja, with the national leadership where they collated and reviewed the results of the referendum they conducted in their separate chapters. The chairmen whom majority of them had approved a nationwide strike, deliberated alongside the National Executive Council, NEC the duration the strike would last.Recall that the NEC had met at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi on the 22nd and 23rd July, 2017, and deliberated extensively on issues arising from the 2009 ASUU/FGN agreement, the 2013 MoU and other related issues and decided to conduct a referendum at the branch congresses on the next line of action. According to a letter signed by the union’s National President Prof. Ogunyemi, the issues at stake included payment of fractions/non-payment of salaries; non-payment of earned academic allowances, non-release of operational licence of NUPENCO, retired professors and their salaries, university staff schools, and funds for the revitalisation of public universities.

DO NOT REJOICE WHEN YOUR ENEMY FALLS : Do not rejoice when your enemy falls…” - Pro. 24:17 :- We have known about the relationship between Godly man David and King Saul. On jealousy and hatred king Saul chased David. Due to this David lamented on increase of more troubles and travails. In this situations David heard that king Saul died. In true sense David should have been felt happy but David felt very sad on hearing the death news of King Saul. David didn’t feel happy for Saul’s unrighteous treatment and torture nor felt thought satisfaction for the judgment of his sins. But David was more sympathetic for Saul’s end. When Saul chased David with evil thoughts for many days David pleaded for judgment in the sight God seemed right. David did not see what evil is going to happen in future but saw what God is going to do in times.  Others might have done very big evil things or wrong things against us. We might have been affected by such evil things. When we expect the judgment from God we should expect what good things God has to do for us. To have the desirous thought to see the evil doers / evil done people’s judgment and fall will not be pleasant one to God.  God cannot help the people who fret the evil doers growing life style. Dear ones! Our God is the God of righteousness who shines righteousness as a day light. God hates the revengeful attitude bitterness, arrogance and false desires. ‘Yes’ those who desire nobody’s destruction can get good things from God.  You readers! How about your heart? Do you gloat and rejoice at your enemies fall? Or do you sympathize like David? Think and fit our self.YOU SHALL BE ESTABLISHED : Isaiah 54:14: In righteousness shalt thou be established : thou shall be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear. To be established means to be in a successful position over a period of time. Whatever the LORD has began in your life in this month of new beginnings will surely be established in the name of JESUS. *It shall spring forth before you know and you will be a wonder to your world (Ps 71:7). This will not just come because you wished or prayed for it. *It will come by your strong desire to obey the commandments of GOD and walk in righteousness. Thou lovest righteousness and hatest wickedness, therefore the GOD, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows (Ps 45:7). Beloved, if you live your life anyhow, you will never see the glory of GOD. The promises of GOD are for those who care to walk in the path of righteousness.  No amount of shouting can claim the promise of GOD for you if you live in sin. Don't be deceived that GOD will bless you because you give huge offerings at church or pray for hours. GOD is never in need and HE will never ever need your money. If you desire to be established by GOD like Joseph, then follow his example. *He was not ready to sin against GOD (Gen 39:9). The days of sin must come to an end.* I pray that grace to live for GOD on earth be released to you in the Name of JESUS. The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree... (Ps 92:12)
